Overall Assessment of the Speaker’s Experience of Stuttering (OASES)
The purpose of this instrument is to assess the overall impact of stuttering on both teens and adults who stutter, and to provide an outcome measurement system that allows comparison between different treatments across several relevant dimensions. The rationale is that clinicians need to base their treat¬ment and assessments on multiple factors.
The starting point for OASES is the World Health Organization’s Inter-national Classification of Functioning, Disability, Health (ICF). This describes disorders under three headings: (a) impairment in body function or struc¬ture; (b) contextual factors; (c) limitations or restrictions.
